Introducing the J-series mandolins by Apitius. Inspired by the legendary Jazz archtop guitars of D'Angelico, D'Aquisto and Benedetto, the J-series are designed with the needs and desires of the Jazz mandolinist in mind. With more air volume and a larger soundboard surface than my F-models, these mandolins have a darker, mellower voice with added sustain making them ideally suited and voiced for Jazz. Additionally, the 14 frets to the body neck, combined with the cutaway body gives easy access to the upper register.
All J-models can be ordered with a custom voiced, floating humbucker pickup that retains the instrument's fully acoustic functionality. The pickup not only allows for the ability to play at much higher volumes, it also opens up a new world of tonal possibilities.
The "Yorkville" is the 'ne plus ultra' of my jazz models. Nothing but the finest materials go into the crafting of this prestigious Jazz instrument. It's named after a now posh, uptown neighborhood of Toronto, Canada that had a rich musical history in the 1960s. Canadian musical icons such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gorden Lightfoot and Bruce Cockburn, to name a few, cut their teeth in the numerous coffee houses that existed in that area at the time. I myself started frequenting the famous "Riverboat" Coffeehouse as a young teenager and began my musical education there.
